For the past nine years, my focus has been on research involving Harriet Tubman and the possible routes she took on the Underground Railroad. My exploration has been an incredible journey revealing fascinating discoveries every step of the way. In an effort to share these outstanding experiences, my hope is that you will enjoy seeing some of the groundwork that has gone into creating this historically significant body of work. I welcome your comments!

It seems slow in coming but I thought I’d post my latest work as it transforms during development. The top image shows the painting in its current stage. As you scroll down you go back in time seeing where it came from and how it has changed

We just arrived home around 5-am this morning from New York. We picked up the Nalle paintings in Troy, NY from the Rensselaer HIstorical Society. We then spent time on Long Island with an old classmate from Yale, Tom Germano. We had a great time going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and seeing the Picasso show as well as many other treasures. We also enjoyed an Otto Dix show that is now on display at the Neue Gallerie. Make sure you put the Neue Gallerie on your list of places to go the next time you are in New York, you won’t be disappointed.

Once we unloaded the van, we got a few hours of much needed shut-eye. We awoke a bit refreshed and went to the University to prepare for a planing meeting regarding my next upcoming exhibition of the Charles Nalle Series. My wife, son and I prepared the space, putting out all the work I have available for viewing from the Nalle series, as well as the Harriet Tubman series. My long time friend and fellow classmate during my undergraduate years at the University of Louisville, now Chair of the Fine Arts Department and Associate Professor of Art at Mt. Saint Joseph College, Loyola Walter, Studio San Giusseppe Assistant to the Director,Velma Daily and gallery Director, Jerry Bellas all came to look at the work and discuss how much work they can actually house in the gallery space.

We are looking forward to the exhibition. They plan to show the entire Nalle Series as well as 5 paintings from the Tubman series. Licia is working on developing curriculum connected with the exhibits that can be utilized by school teachers . The curriculum packets are grade specific and we hope that there will be interest shown in bringing in school groups to see the exhibition and participate in the activities and program. She will offer the curriculum as a pilot program. Requesting that students and teachers alike give feedback on the Underground Railroad program they receive. Our aim is to provide this curriculum to schools across the world in the near future. We are eagerly looking forward to this opportunity to get feedback on the educational program that Licia is developing.

I am anxious to get back in the studio to work on my latest two paintings, “Horace Averill’s Betrayal”, a small painting and,”1000 Person Shuffle”, my goal is to try to have those as well as a large print completed for the upcoming show. Licia is going to design the brochure and card for the exhibition. September will be upon us in no time.
